A Treasure From Diana

Last Thursday Diana stopped by with a very special present. This is one of her test pots that contains a delicate bit of nature. In all my biological travels, I have never seen in person a hummingbird nest. Diana supplied one to us in her wonderful glazed clay container.

Moss, and plant fibers make up this walnut sized nest and as you can see the birds shingle the nest with lichens.. Marvelously, the hummingbirds use spider webs to keep the nest together. Plant down (dandelion tuffs, etc.) is also a part of nest construction.
