Mini-vacation #3 - Part 2

(After ABVD)

The small mountain daisies were blooming profusely in the grass around the cabin. On Thursday morning we decided to enjoy the flowers and take a walk. No, not on the trail that is pictured below.

We took the less aerobic path (handicap accessible) to the viewing area of Blackwater Falls. Judy said she does not know how many times I have taken a photograph of the trees at the trail head that are pictured below. I am always amazed that the root systems are now clinging to the rocks.

You can see the aeorbic path to the Falls if you look to the left of the photo below. I am not certain how many steps are involved when one walks to this viewing area. I know that it is a much better workout for one's cardiovascular system.

Grandma Great is pondering great thoughts as she looks at this wonderful sight.

The waters of the Blackwater River tumble 57 feet over the Falls. It is certainly more impressive when there is a greater water flow. Our favorite time at the Falls is winter when the Falls freeze.

Judy always enjoys observing the vastness of Blackwater Canyon. It was cloudy this day. When the leaves change their color in the fall, this area provides a special experience.

Judy and I took some time to rest and talk about our adventures at the Blackwater Canyon viewing station.

We read the plaque below and commented to each other that we will not be around when the time capsule will be opened in 2062. Let's see - Judy will be 118 years old and I will be a young 116! Hopefully our kids and grandkids will be able to see this event.

Grandma Great, Judy, and I left Blackwater Falls and headed home last Friday in order to attend the Gilmer County Relay For Life. We traveled back home by way of Parsons. We said goodby to our windmills outside of Thomas. Was another great mini-vacation!

Hmmm...I'll be 111. Hope i'll still be able to walk to the Falls by then!

The water flow is really down, but it hasn't rained much this month so it's no surprise. I walked down to the Falls two years ago with some of the grandchildren, but last visit? I took the easy path! Age has its privileges..and aches and pains.

Sounds like you had a great time. Grandma Great is inspiring!
