Hendersonville, NC

On Thursday, March 6th, we traveled from Glenville to Hendersonville, NC to visit our friends. Chuck and PJ White, who have recently moved to this area from the suburbs of Atlanta. We arrived around 4 in the afternoon. Chuck and PJ had friends from Ohio visiting, Terry and Shirley Swift. They are all special folks.

On Thursday evening we ate at the Fiddlin' Pig on Tunnel Road. Yes, it was a bluegrass BBQ and the music and the food were great. Nothing like eating pulled BBQ pork and collared greens with the sounds of a live bluegrass band to help you chew!

After this unique treat, we were off to the Pack Place in downtown Henderson. We had tickets to see the Irish goup, Lunasa, at the Diana Wortham Theater.

The group is named for an ancient Celtic festival. Boy, what a wonderful group of Irish musicians. You can see Cillian Vallely below playing the uilleann pipes. His fingers moved at amazing speeds. I was not certain who could move their fingers faster - Cillian or Kevin Crawford who played the flute and penny whistle. The band was rounded out by the bassist, Trevor Hutchinson, guitarist, Paul Meehan, and fiddle player, Sean Smyth. It was a super evening.
On Friday we toured the shops and galleries of Hendersonville. It was a great shopping and looking experience even though we dodged rain showers. PJ fixed a pork roast stuffed with fruit dressing for dinner. Yummy!
We left Hendersonville around 9 A.M. on Saturday and headed to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where we were to meet Sarah, Sam, Jeff, and Jeff's mom, Shirley. We will continue our blogging tomorrow with stories and sights of the South Carolina coast.
