Happy Groundhog Day!

Groundhog Day is a holiday celebrated in Pennsylvania, New York, Canada, and other locations on February 2. (We have French Creek Freddy who resides at the French Creek Game Farm. http://www.wvdnr.gov/2007news/07news019.shtm) In weather lore, if a groundhog, also known as a woodchuck, marmot and whistle pig in our neck of the woods, emerges from its burrow on this day and fails to see its shadow because the weather is cloudy, winter will soon end. If the groundhog sees its shadow, it will return into its burrow, and the winter will continue for 6 more weeks.

You will be surprised on how much of a big deal this celebration is in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. What a three day event! Check out the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club's website at: http://www.groundhog.org/

Thanks, Sarah, for shipping the photos of the infamous basketball game at WVU on Wednesday.

Dad Dodson and Sam are trying to figure out why the WVU team is so miserable.

Grandma and Grandpa are just happy to be here. What is that in Grandpa's hand? Yes, if you have not experienced a Zul's lemonade, you are missing a treat.

Sam could make a great commercial for Zul's.

Even our Mountaineer had a hard time getting the crowds motivated during this fiasco!

By the way, Happy Mardi Gras! February 5th is Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras (French for "Fat Tuesday") is the day before Ash Wednesday.
