The Greenbrier Resort Mini-Vacation
Part Three

Let us show you all a sampling of some Greenbrier areas that one will encounter on a visit. The North Parlor above is a lovely room. Judy is posing with a portrait of Princes Grace of Monaco. Monarchs and movie stars have stayed at the Greenbrier - from Princess Grace to Cameron Diaz, John Travolta, and Crystal Gale, from the Duke and Duchess of Windsor to Drew Barrymore. Twenty-five U.S. presidents have slept here, the first being James Monroe and the latest Bill Clinton. Robert E. Lee was a guest several times after the Civil War.

Who would think of topping a Christmas tree with a peacock?

This shot is showing the Celebrity Corridor that leads into the Cameo Ballroom.

You have to love the Cameo Ballroom.

The Cameo Ballroom features a 9-foot chandelier of Czechoslovakian crystal.

Judy and I are at the grand piano in this room. I am getting ready to sing one of the many love songs in my repetoire to my princess. I am such a romantic.

The Victorian Writing Room, once called the most photographed room in the country, is one of our favorites.

The Trellis Lobby, shown below, is light and airy. Designer Dorothy Draper's "Romance & Rhododendrons" renovation of The Greenbrier included more than 45,000 yards of fabric and 15,000 rolls of wallpaper and was one of her single greatest design achievements. According to Carleton Varney, who is Draper's protege and President of The Dorothy Draper Company, Inc., "The Greenbrier is quintessential Draper, the most highly prized jewel in her crown." The resort remains the single greatest installation of her work. Carlton Varney is in charge of decorating the new 80,000 square foot casino which is currently under construction. I am certain that it will still be in the Dororthy Draper style.

The white swag above the mantel and the gold eagle are carved wood. The resort employees a staff of carpenters, wood carvers, upholsterers, and seamstresses.

The Greenbrier Culinary Insitute demonstrated their expert skill in producing not only gingerbread houses, but also the resort itself.

The resort has many wonderful paintings by world class artists.

Some walls are decorated with fine original murals depicting historic scenes.

Tomorrow - some horse action for the Meads family!
