Camano Island

We arrived on Camano Island on Thursday afternoon. What a beautiful area! The island is one of the first of ten communities in the nation to be certified by the National Wildlife Federation's Community Wildlife Habitat program. Camano Island is home to one of the largest Great Blue Heron rookeries in Puget Sound.

As we were having refreshments in this area of the yard, a bald eagle passed overhead. I am not certain what is going on with Gary and Judy's countenance!

Uncle Gary and Allene has planted Corsican mint as a groundcover in this section of the yard. Powerfully fragrant microscopic mint, useful for carpeting dampish places," wrote author, Louise Beebe Wilder about the tiny Corsican mint. The diminutive mint has long been used as flavoring for crème de menthe liqueur. The best part of this plant is the minty fragrance, released when you step on it. Some say it has the scent of pennyroyal. On a warm summer day, sitting in the shade is cooling, but placing your bare feet and wiggling your toes over the tiny, cool-to-the-touch mint while breathing in the released fragrance is both cooling and as refreshing as the liqueur made from it and poured on the rocks. It is indeed wonderful!

Here are a few views of Pugent Sound taken from their house.

Before leaving for a visit to LaConner, Judy and I took on a shuffleboard tournament with Uncle Gary and sister Judy.

Guess who won?

This beach is located just below the house.

These folk certainly have great sunsets. On a clear day Mount Baker can be seen to the left of their house.
