A Stroll at Seahurst Park

Within walking distance of Uncle Dwight and Aunt Jan’s house in Burien, Washington, is Seahurst Park - a beautiful 185 acre park. We always love to visit this part of Pugent Sound with its views from the beach towards Vashon Island and the Olympics looming in the background. As Seahurst is located on a relatively wide portion of Puget Sound, it is less subject to heavy water movement.

We love to check out the sea life. As you can see from the photos below that the algae was most impressive to our Appalachian eyes.

This park has a variety of marine life including red octopus, ratfish, and anemones. From my reading, the main attraction would be for me the sea pens (which are bioluminescent) and nudibranchs (some as big as a foot in length). Alas, these critters were not discovered this day.

Here are a few photos of the beach combing crew.

We are always kids. Sister Judy and wife Judy found this seesaw on the beach. They had to take a ride.

The weather was cloudy but it was a great morning in this special place!
