Part four

JOJO The Dolphin

Everywhere in Providenciales you will come across the name JOJO.  Let me explain about this most famous resident.

JOJO is an Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin that has been swimming with visitors in Grace Bay since the early 1980′s. In 1989 this Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops Truncatus) was declared a national treasure. JoJo is a male dolphin weighing about 880 pounds and approximately 10 feet in length, and is different in that he voluntarily interacts with humans.  It's easy to identify him beacuse of unforuneate propeller scars on his back.

He prefers humans to other dolphins and can be sighted somewhere along Grace Bay nearly every day. He is a wild dolphin and so people are advised to be cautious but he often comes to greet people and will follow boats and play in their wake. JOJO is a national treasure and even has his own website.

Sorry to say that on our trip we did not see JOJO nor any other dolphin.
