Crocosmia lucifer

It has been extremely hot these past days in Gilmer County and the high temperatures did not discourage the Crocosmia from producing wonderful blooms. We love the exotic red flowers produced by this plant. The flowers attract humming birds and butterflies and are good in bouquets.

Crocosmia
is a Greek name meaning Saffron scented, attributed to fragrance given off when dried flowers are put in water.

The Crocosmia lucifer is also known as Falling Stars. Our plants were given to us by special gardeners who have wonderful flower gardens in Burien, Washington. We transported the bulbs back to WV on our last visit with our Pacific Northwest relatives several years ago.
