RELAY FOR LIFE

Last evening was Glenville's Relay for Life. As you know, Relay For Life is an activity-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at GSC's Morris studium and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.

The theme for this year's event seemed very tropical. The weather was teriffic- only a few sprinkles. There were major storms in our surrounding counties, but we were blessed to have a great summer evening. Here is the Curves team's tent. They made wonderful BBQ beef sandwiches.

Jim Flynn manned the Curves popcorn stand as well as being the engineer and architect on the Curves entry into the foot propelled car race. I will post tomorrow the wonderful vehicle that Jim produced.

Diana and I had the responsibilty of filling the helium balloons. It took us a few tries and a few accidental launches into space before we prefected our technique.

Judy and Billie Summers helped sell the Curves Relay For Life cookbooks.

Jeane Kennedy was in charge of distributing medals to the cancer survivors. This is always a great ceremony.

It was then time for the first lap around the field. The first lap is dedicated to all the cancer survivors.

Many special folks attented these events. Judy is posing with Coach Damon West and his daughter Lucy Ann. Mr. West is a legend in the state. He is 92 years old. The Wests are a wonderful family.
