The 45th Wood Festival Parade

The parade started with the fire trucks and emergency wagons announcing the beginning of the parade. The Parade Marshall was Jess "Willard" Jones, who is almost 90 years old. Known as the Mayor of Five Forks, Willard has attended every Wood Festival since it began in 1962. He is a banjo player who picks his instrument in the old style.

The parade consisted of several floats.

The Senior Citizens had their rocking chairs in action.

The special lady below is Freda Yoak. Freda will be representing Calhoun County as a Belle in The 58th Annual WV State Folk Festival which is held this year from June 21 through the 24th.

The following are a few snapshots from the rest of the parade.

What is a Wood Festival without the Queen?

After the parade we had a treat. Heartwood In The Hills preformed for the crowd. Tomorrow I will post highlights of their dances.
