The Storm Arrives!

Well, my friends, the prediction of heavy snows was correct. This is a view out our atrium window. It is glorious tonight with the spotlight aimed at the feeder. Tis a true winter wonderland.

We have had around a foot of snow. Folks in West Virginia have had more. Rachael, who lives in Shpeherdstown, has over 20 inches and it is still snowing.

There are 100,000 West Virginia families without power tonight. Friend Diana who lives on Fallen Timber is without electricity. Sarah and Jeff who live in Bridgeport lost power this morning. Jeff went to Lowes and purchased a large generator. Once he got the critter together and placed it on the back deck - the power returned. Just received a note on Facebook that said their power is off once again. Do not know if the generator is now in operation or not. Just received another message and Appalachian Power indicated that all electricity should be restored to households by noon on Monday.

Our vehicles have not been moved since the snow began to fall. Our friends James and Jen were returning yesterday afternoon from Tennessee when they were stopped on Interstate 81 by accidents during the first of the storm. Jen indicated that in 4 hours they only moved about 5 feet. Finally they got off the interstate and found a hotel room around 10:30 PM. Last room- they are still trapped in Virginia as of this evening. Virginia Governor (and West Virginia's) has declared a State of Emergency.

The snow in our area was heavy in weight. You can hear the trees breaking on the hillside.

The first snow of the season was short lived and beautiful. This second storm is even more lovely and the snow will be with us for some time. Churchs are closed for tomorrow due to the road conditions. We were scheduled to have a supper and Candlight Service tomorrow evening at the Glenville Presbyterian Church - it was postponed.

I am certain that the fish in the pond are fine in their wintery habitat.

Our bamboo forest is now on the ground. Even the rhodendrons are touching grass.

We had help this afternoon in shoveling our driveway. Sam Dennison was so great in coming by and removing the foot of snow so we can get the cars out tomorrow.

A white Christmas to all of our family in the Pacific Northwest.
