Djembe

Good morning! What a great Labor Day visit with our grandkids (and family). On August 1st, Jeff an Sarah had a wedding anniversity. Sarah gave Jeff a djembe. Above Jeff and Lucy are involved in a Dodson original composition. A djembe (pronounced jem bay) is a skin covered hand drum, shaped like a large goblet, and meant to be played with bare hands. The djembe is also known as the magical drum, and the mushroom-shaped drum. The djembe originated in West Africa, and is an integral part of the region's musical tradition and culture. The djembe is now popular all over the world. Sarah not only gave Jeff a full sized djembe. but Sam also revceived a smaller verion.

Flora tried her hand at this unique instrument.

Lucy became interested in playing the smaller djembe (with the help of Uncle Jeff). You will notice that Flora had to start her "dance with veil" and gyrated with the rhythmn of the drum.

Sam had to get into the act with his famous world reknown "butt shake".

Enough of the dancing stuff for Sam. He had to play the large djembe. "How do you see over this critter?"

Oh, how fun it was to watch this dance cerebration. Hated to leave this festive celebration, but Sam's folks indicated that it was time for a bath!
