War Zone!
Tis that time of the year when we hear huge thumps on our metal roof and we are bombared by organic flakes raining down upon us. The thumps are whole hickory nuts hitting the roof and the constant rain of nut flakes are produced by the grey squirrels feeding. What a collection of debris builds up on in gutters and on the back deck!
The grey squirrels jump from tree to tree knocking off the nuts. (I also think they just pick the nuts and throw them toward the roof!) The nuts are quite effective sound bombs as they land with a "thud" upon on metal roofing.
I sweep twice a day during this war period. I try to keep the shavings and nuts down to a minimum.
When you realize that a squirrel has little problem in getting to the meat of the hard hickory nut, one also realizes that catching this rodent by hand is out of the question. You do know that squirrels can be deadly? Yep, if you are one of these pink critters below, look out for a pack of squirrels! I love this commercial!
